Description

Cardiff University is situated in the heart of the Welsh capital.

Founded in 1883 with just 13 academic staff and 102 full-time students, it has grown quickly and it now caters for in excess of 30,000 students. It is the only Welsh university in the Russell Group.

Its 26 academic schools are organised into three colleges: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Biomedical and Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences and Engineering.

It offers over 300 undergraduate degrees and more than 200 taught masters, diplomas and certificates, as well as providing professional short courses. About 6,500 international students from more than 100 countries are enrolled at Cardiff.

The university is made up of two large campuses, both close to the centre of Cardiff. Heath Park, a mile to its north, is on the fringe of 100 acres of parkland and playing fields. With the exception of Pharmacy and Optometry, it houses the university’s healthcare schools, sharing the site with the University Hospital of Wales. Study areas and IT facilities are open around the clock and, as well as libraries and lecture theatres, there is a swimming pool, fitness suite and squash court.

Cathays Park is the main campus and home to 22 of the university’s schools, as well as the main Student’s Union. Just half a mile from the city centre, it includes restaurants, shops, a nightclub and pubs. Among the tree-lined avenues and Portland stone buildings are modern study facilities, including labs, IT suites and lecture theatres.

Professors at Cardiff have won many prestigious awards including two Nobel Prizes, one in Chemistry and the other in Medicine. Many have been selected to join the likes of the British Academy and Royal Academy of Engineering, while the university itself has been awarded six Queen’s Anniversary Prizes.

It has an alumni network of 145,000, drawn from over 180 countries. Notable graduates include BBC newsreader Huw Edwards, the Olympic gold medallist Nicole Cooke, and a previous national poet of Wales, Gillian Clarke.

The course wasn't as expected. Some professors always claim they are busy and don't have time for questions after lectures. Some others don't have appropriate teaching skills. International students are treated in a different way than locals. By contrast, some talks are enlightening. What I like the most is the excellent facilities afforded to students, including free printing service and comfortable study rooms.

As an international student, I had some difficulties in the courses, the modules are not fully understandable even when am asking the tutors to explain, some of them just make it more complicated. Some of the tutors not considering that there are non native speakers during the lectures and do take really fast. The schedule timings are tiring! As a suggestion, it is better to divide the lectures to more days. One of the modules the marking of the assignment was not fair as each marker have a different point of view. The course wasn’t as expected These are the things that made me struggle On another hand there are some tutors who are helpful and kind. The facilities are good and the accommodations are fine It is a good environment for students And I will recommend the university to a friend but I will advise them and explains what I get lost in.

I had a really good experience at Cardiff University. Kind and approachable staff, always willing to help. The only improvement would be to align deadlines better for each module and maybe some extra time for revision before final exams

University is good, and even the MBA program is good. But my recommendation is to get work experience before opting for an MBA. Cardiff University does not have any placements as such. There will be few events through you will be able to meet few company representatives. You will be asked to apply online most of the time. As the visa regulations are strict it will not be easy for the companies to offer you a job even if they want to. However there are few who got through all those and still secured a job, not from university placements though.

Great university, such a family atmosphere. In a city that feels like a town with loads of green space. Great opportunities - so many sports, societies and the healthcare sciences are amazing quality I am proud to be a medical student there.
